Catalogue Note

To depict the darker side of human expression, Rodin studied cadavers and patients in psychiatric wards, and to depict creativity he modeled the hands of musicians and fellow artists. His ability to convey the explosive emotion of the human form is seen in small scale in the graceful, delicate touch of these hands.

This work will be included in the forthcoming Catalogue Critique de l'oeuvre sculpté d'Auguste Rodin currently being prepared by the Comité Rodin in collaboration with Galerie Brame & Lorenceau under the direction of Jérôme Le Blay under the archive number 2019-6070B.
