Condition
This work is unlined and appears to still be on its original stretcher. The paint layer is stable, clean and possibly varnished. No damages are visible to the naked eye. The red elements in the composition exhibit a fine craquelure. The three red elements in the upper right have a slightly more severe and raised craquelure. Under ultraviolet light, there is an area running vertically through the central composition that appears slightly mottled. There are some other patches that show very strongly under ultraviolet light, particularly on the right side of the group of surreal elements. These areas all seem to be original to the artist. A slightly mottled texture can also be seen under ultraviolet light in the blue in the lower half of the right side, which corresponds to cracking and not retouching. It seems that the artist repainted the blue background in the center and upper left and center and upper right. The work should be hung as is.
