Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. The colors are vibrant, and the media layer is stable. Isolated areas of very fine spiderweb craquelure are present in the areas of deepest blue pigment in the shawl of the central figure, and in the shadowed wall of the blue building; however, all of these areas are stable. A few minor scattered pinpoint spots of media loss are present at the extreme lower right and extreme upper left edges of the board. Under ultraviolet light inspection, isolated pinpoint spots and fine ½-inch lines of inpainting become apparent in the lower right quadrant, along the upper right edge, in the upper left quadrant, and along the extreme left edge. A three-inch concentrated area of inpainting is present in the basket of the figure. A varnish becomes apparent overall. However, all of these areas are in the peripheral areas of the composition and do not interfere with the central figures or buildings, except for two spots in the hat of the male figure and one spot in the brow of the female figure.
