Catalogue Note

Patek Philippe confirms that the present lot was originally sold in 2015.

Patek Philippe has a incredible tradition of creating highly complicated and groundbreaking engineering marvels throughout their history. Standing as the premier firm, the manufacture has also always been dedicated to the preservation of artisan skills and has worked for generations to safeguard the techniques and artistry behind such exceptional rare handcrafts as the present lot.  The Ref 5077 was launched in 2007 and was produced limited numbers. Each year, the reference launched a selection of dials with different themes, of which the present lot features an electrified plane of fronds in the Art Deco style. Two enameling techniques were employed to create such a lovely vibrancy and depth within the dial. First, the master enameler works in cloisonné, using flattened gold wire to create a pattern throughout the dial. To apply the enamel, the paillonné technique is employed by tucking a piece of foil between layers of translucent enamel. The effect is rich and shimmering, creating a multi dimensional ground full of reflections and luminosity.
