Catalogue Note

Reference 6240 was the first Daytona to incorporate screw-down pushers.  Manufactured solely in stainless steel, the chronograph also features an acrylic tachometer bezel.  In production from 1965 through 1969, approximately 1,700 pieces were made. The present example features a 'floating' Daytona dial, more often seen on reference 6239 (see Lot 185 for reference 6239 with the 'floating Daytona' dial configuration).  The 1.4 million serial number dates back to 1965 - during the first half of production of reference 6240.  One can speculate that the 'floating' Daytona dials were used to test out the newly added screw-down pushers.

The rarity of reference 6240 coupled with the early 'Floating Daytona' dial further enhances the collectability of this piece.
