Sotheby's is thrilled to present this exceptionally rare and highly important Rolex Daytona with Zenith movement and blood red dial with suspended logo. This historically important wristwatch was discovered for the very first time only recently, is fresh to the market and previously unknown.
The case carries an E series serial number, indicating a manufacture year of 1990. The reference number 16528 is also the reference number used for the known porcelain floating Cosmograph dials.
The automatic Rolex Daytona was first introduced to the market in 1988. This new model completely changed the concept of a sports chronograph. The movement was powered by the celebrated Zenith El Primero caliber 400 mechanism.
There are many interesting attributes to this watch that make it highly unusual. The dial is the only known example to be finished with a deep red colour that is stamped on the reverse with the Singer signature and feet that are consistent with other suspended logo dials. What highlights it even further is the suspended logo and inverted 6 within the 12 hour register, again, consistent with other porcelain floating Cosmograph dials. Further rendering this watch exceptional is the wonderful state of preservation throughout with very sharp case lines, hallmarks and bracelet.
Sotheby's is delighted to be given the opportunity and trust to offer this extremely rare timepiece. Every aspect and detail of this watch render it one of the most exciting automatic Daytona to be offered at auction.
