Catalogue Note

The Patek Philippe World Time The world time watch can trace its roots back to 1931 and the invention, by Louis Cottier, of the Heure Universalle complication. This was quickly utilized by prestigious Manufactures such as Patek Philippe and can be found in their earlier complicated references 605, 1415 and 2523 for example. The complication is such that it is instantly recognizable, with the prominent rotating outer ring listing the major cities and their time zones, and represents a complication which remains as relevant today as it did at its conception.

The world time is now a household name and almost exclusively and instantly associated with Patek Philippe. It is a lineage of watches that continues to this day and within which one will find some of the brand’s most iconic references. The following lots represent the modern variations clearly and directly inspired by Cottier’s complication.

Debut in 2000, the reference 5110 is now discontinued and replaced by the reference 5130 in 2006. The dial features two rotating discs which makes it possible to simultaneously display the time in all 24 zones.
