Catalogue Note

Under the "Métiers d'Art" collection, Vacheron Constantin introduced a series of watches inspired by the 12 zodiac animals of the Chinese calendar. Released in 2014, the present watch features the horse, a symbol of freedom and power, to commemorate its respective year.

The centerpiece of this watch is definitely its magnificent “Grand Feu” enamel dial. Meaning “Great Fire”, Grand Feu is an enameling technique only master watchmakers are capable of. It requires strict colour co-ordination, temperature control and years of experience. Layers of enamel are heated continuously under extreme temperatures, resulting in an elegant but bold, caramel-brown dial decorated with bamboo leaves. Sitting in the middle is a hand engraved pink gold horse, adding a layer of perception and furthermore enhancing the visual presentation of the watch. Four apertures on the dial display the hour, the minute, the day and the date respectively. Truly a master work of art, the present watch is the condensed effort of the most elite watchmakers at Vacheron Constantin.
