The chronograph has played a significant role at the firm of Patek Philippe. The chronograph complication was first invented at around 1822 and the first chronograph with hand that returned to its initial position was invented in 1862. The present watch has a simple chronograph mechanism that starts, stops and returns to zero by a button that is operated through the crown. The watch is further fitted with a locking mechanism at 1 o'clock that provides useful assistance when worn in the pocket.
