Condition

MVT: running at the time of cataloguing and the calendar advancing. CASE: in good condition with sharp lugs and crisp numbers on the back. The bezel still well-defined but with visible signs of wear and very light rounding to the edges. Bracelet in very good condition with tight links, nice metal brushes finish and minor surface wear from occasional use. DIAL: in great condition with minute surface blemishes. Please note that the movement has not been tested for the accuracy of time and may need a service at the buyer's expense. Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement and we do not guarantee the authenticity of any individual component parts since subsequent repairs and restoration work may have resulted in the replacement of original parts. Catalogue Note

The perpetual calendar is a complication that has very long ties with Audemars Piguet. Since the 1910s, Audemars Piguet hase been producing stylized unique perpetual calendar pocket watches that were highly differentiated from those that were made from other leading Swiss brands. As the popularity of complicated wristwatches has increased, in 1955 Audemars Piguet produced the world’s first perpetual calendar wristwatch that would feature a leap year indication. The current watch is a Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar ref. 25820 that was made available with 12 different dials with a selection of materials such as stainless steel, 18k yellow gold, platinum, stainless steel with platinum and 18k pink gold with tantalum.
