Catalogue Note

The present lot has been retained in excellent and highly attractive overall condition. The case is as crisp as one could expect with beautiful lines and facets. In addition, the hallmark and French import marks to the side of the case are as crisp as could be. The dial is pink and finished with crisp Breguet numerals, both of which are confirmed on the extract from the Patek Philippe archives. Reference 492 was in production from 1936 until the late 1940’s. The Art Deco style case of was designed to fit around the wrist and it also carries the nickname, "Railway" due to the stepped sides of the case that appear much like a railway track.

This highly elegant reference served as the inspiration for the creation of reference 5105, the limited edition made to commemorate the reopening of Patek Philippe's Salons in Geneva.
