Catalogue Note

This military watch is historically interesting and was made for pilots of the Japanese Air Force. It comes in a large case and features a big onion crown as it was designed to be worn over flight equipment and operated while wearing thick gloves. During the human tragedy of the Second World War, a lot of these watches were lost and destroyed alongside their original owners, as the infamous 'Kamikaze' pilots sacrificed themselves and used their planes as missiles to attack enemy vessels. It is therefore a very rare occasion to come across one such as the present example.   This example is in very original condition with Japanese military engravings to the outside of the case back. The dial too is in very attractive and original condition. What makes this watch rarer still, is the presence of the original strap, a rarity in itself.
