Condition

MVT: is running at the time of cataloguing and the day and date advancing. CASE: in very good condition still retaining crisp hallmarks on the back, nice proportions and even some metal brushed finishing on the lugs. Pinhead dings and surface scratches are visible alongside some oxidation marks on the case. The bracelet with some stretching and surface wear and clasp stamped 1-72. DIAL: in very good condition with very minor surface spots visible when closely examining the dial. The lume dots are all reacting very consistently to UV light and fade right after exposure. Only the lume plot 4 o'clock is lacking some material to it. There is fine tarnish and wear to the applied Khanjar. Please note that the movement has not been tested for the accuracy of time and may need a service at the buyer's expense. Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement and we do not guarantee the authenticity of any individual component parts since subsequent repairs and restoration work may have resulted in the replacement of original parts. You are advised that watch straps or bands made of materials derived from endangered or otherwise protected species (i.e. alligator or crocodile) are not sold with the watch and we reserve the right to remove these straps or bands prior to shipping. Furthermore, the watch may not come with its original manufacturers strap or band. Catalogue Note

This reference 1803 Rolex Day-Date is a very rare example in incredibly original condition. The dial is highlighted with a gold Khanjar applied at 6 o’clock. It is rare for a gold Khanjar to be applied to the dial rather than stamped. The case number is also repeated on the inside of the case back which has also been stamped with RWC LTD together with English hallmarks. The bracelet is original and stamped for the first quarter of 1972 and the presentation box and punched guarantee are signed Asprey.
