Description

  • Height 10 5/8  in., 27 cm
of flattened quadrilobed section, the rounded lobed sides rising from a tall splayed foot to a waisted neck and flared rim, flanked by a pair of raised flanges modeled with stylized dragon heads and hooked tails, covered overall with a brilliant rich purple glaze with milky-blue and lavender streaks drizzling down from the neck, the glaze thinning to a dark brown color at the rim, the base left unglazed with a layer of chocolate-brown dressing

Condition

The rim with a few chips and wajima-nuri lacquer repair, some of which is now missing. The inner neck with large sections of the inner neck with brown lacquer repair. The inner foot and recessed base similarly repaired with brown lacquer. The foot rim with several chips and uneven. The surface with wear and characteristic crazing overall.
