Description
- Height 6 1/4 in., 16 cm
the cylindrical body superbly carved in varying levels of relief with a highly animated continuous narrative scene, depicting twelve riders on galloping horses in a procession amidst a rocky landscape, the figures wielding swords, holding banners and drawing bows and arrows, divided by large branches of foliage and rockwork all beneath scudding skies and raised on five conforming low tab feet, the stone with scattered icy-white inclusions
Condition
The brushpot is in overall good condition with only a few small losses to the extremities of the high-relief carving. The stone has a natural fissure running through one foot and approx. 4 cm into the base. The accession number "00.733" has been painted in gold on the base. The color of the stone is slightly more greenish-white than in the illustrations in the printed catalog, and it is flecked with icy-white inclusions (as illustrated).
