  • Height 9 1/2  in., 24.1 cm
the round face carved with delicate features and a serene expression, the rosebud lips drawing slightly upward at the corners, the nose subtly contoured and the pupils of the eyes carefully incised beneath the lowered lids, the face framed by pendulous ears and long locks swept back into a high chignon tied behind a tall diadem, the diadem carved in relief with an image of Amitabha Buddha seated on a lotus blossom with clouds to either side, the lower band of the diadem with traces of red paint, stand (2)

Condition

There are losses to the tips of the earlobes, the central lobe of the diadem, and the sashes descending from the back of the diadem, as well as minor expected surface wear (including small scattered chips, scratches to the surface, and losses to the polychrome lacquer), all as illustrated and commensurate with age. The underside of the neck has 3 drill holes; the central hole has been lined with a metal tube for affixing to the stand.
