Description

  • Height 41 in.

Provenance

Sotheby's New York, Important Americana: Furniture and Folk Art, January 18, 1998, sale 7085, lot 1725;
G.K.S. Bush, Washington, D.C.

Condition

Wear commensurate with age and use. Retains a dark, rich surface throughout, with traces of an early red wash in areas. Slip seat appears to be original, but has iron brace added to the back left and front right corners for added support. The proper left arm was previously cracked from the arm support back to the junction with the stile and reglued. The proper right seatrail has been cut, removing the front and rear curves issuing from the stile and just behind the side knee return.
