Catalogue Note

The Continental Congress's rejection of Lord North’s Conciliatory Proposal that attempted to divide the colonies and weaken the move towards independence. Signed in type by John Hancock.  This resolution was one of a series of political manifestos Thomas Jefferson wrote over a two- year period that ultimately led John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and others to choose him to draft the Declaration of Independence in June 1776.
