Marked inside base R & Potter, 3 x 2 x 5/8 in.; 77 x 50 x 17 mm, curved outline to fit a coat pocket. Engraved on the lid: "Presented By the | young ladies of | Mrs. Brown's Seminary | Norfolk 8–23th–1824 | this gift demonstrates | our Joy the inscription | is on our hearts | to General la Fayette."

Small bruise on the lower left corner of the cover; otherwise good condition with good color and patina.
