Description

Of openwork design, set with four old European-cut diamonds, accented with a cushion-cut sapphire and an oval-shaped ruby weighing 2.01 carats, further highlighted by single-cut diamonds, size 6½; 1920s.

Condition

In good condition, especially given the age of the piece, with light surface scratches and scuffs commensurate with wear, not noticeable when worn. Mounting tests as platinum. The ruby is medium deep very slightly purplish red, moderately included, with two large cavities on the pavilion, not noticeable when worn. The sapphire is medium deep blue, slightly included, with abrasions to the crown, noticeable under 10x magnification. The diamonds, estimated to weigh a total of approximately 2.20 carats, are approximately I-J color, VS clarity. Overall length approximately 1⅛ inches. Accompanied by GRS report no. 092160 dated September 20, 2010 stating that the ruby is of Burmese origin, with no indications of heating, and that the color of this ruby may also be called 'pigeon's blood' by members of the trade. Accompanied by Gübelin report no. 1008561 dated August 26, 2010 stating that the ruby is of Burmese origin, with no indications of heating. Accompanied by CDC report no. 0809286 dated September 14, 2008 stating that the ruby is of Burmese origin, with no indications of heating.
