Condition

Courtship: The canvas has been lined. There are areas of fine craquelure and some 'creasing' to the paint surface above the figure's heads. There are some specks of surface dirt and a few minor scuffs and abrasions. Otherwise the work appreas to be in good condition. UV light inspection reveals areas of retouching, notably to the white background with furhter touches elsewhere. Marriage: The canvas has been lined. Areas of craquelure throughout. There are some specks of surface dirt and a few minor scuffs and abrasions. Otherwise the work appreas to be in good condition. UV light inspection reveals areas of retouching notably to the left of the seated figure and in the sail cloth. There are some further minor touches elsewhere. Both works are held in matching gilt frames.
