Condition

The canvas is unlined and has been put onto a new stretcher providing a secure structural support. There are occasional traces of fine craquelure, stable and only visible upon close inspection. The work appears in good overall condition. Ultraviolet light reveals an opaque varnish. There are some areas of retouching to the edges. There are some retouchings in the dark area of pigment area between the head of the knight and the head of the lady. Some cosmetic retouchings to the around the lady's head. A larger area of retouching to the left of the Lady's right shoulder and some further minor flecks of retouching elsewhere. Held in a gilt plaster frame.
