This armchair features decorative flourishes seen on furniture produced during the later phase of Morris & Company's output. The shaped 'wavy' arm supports recall those on a sideboard designed by Jack which was exhibited by Morris & Co. at the Manchester Jubilee Exhibition in 1887. Jack worked as the assistant to the firm’s chief furniture designer, Philip Webb from 1880 and in 1890 took over from Webb as the main designer for the company.
