Catalogue Note

The IB Lelarge stamp most probably corresponds to Jean-Baptiste Lelarge III, who used the same one as his father Jean-Baptiste Lelarge II (master status in 1738). He took over his father's workshop shortly after his death in 1771. Jean-Baptiste III received his master status in 1775 and he soon earned an excellent reputation among the rich French and European clientele including the King of Portugal. His name is not mentioned in the archives of France's royal furniture depository, Garde-Meubles royal.
