Condition

The photograph is quite accurate. A modern mirror has been added inside the frame. As expected the glass pieces with tarnishment and oxidation (very few cracks). Giltwood : two chips with losses on the top (right scroll of the finial) and on the lower left scroll (not distracting). The right foot end replaced. Some traces of old woodworm damages (not active any more). Very attractive frame in good overall condition.

Catalogue Note

This frame with its elaborate carving and glass with raised elliptical motifs originates from the same workshop as the group of girandoles, an example of which is in the Royal Palace in Turin and illustrated by Antonetto, op. cit., p. 206, plate 286, and Baccheschi, op. cit., p. 59. A pair of girandoles identical to the Royal model and part of this same group, was sold from the Estate of the late Giuseppe Rossi, in London, Sotheby's, Vol. I, 10th March 1999, lot 3 (£45,000).
