Condition
The illustration is accurate. The marquetry is in good condition overall and is only slightly flacking in places, as on the right side. A few small pieces of veneer are replaced, a few others are missing. On the central door, there is an horizontal crack over the entire width of the panel. The veneer is slightly discolored due to sunlight exposure (the colors are more vivid underneath the bronze mounts when removed). The carcass is sound and sturdy (two pieces of oak inserted on the top of the carcass). The gilt-bronze mounts are very nicely chased; they are quite stained and rubbed, especially on the flat surfaces, and would benefit from a slight cleaning. The marble top was broken and restored. Beautiful piece of furniture in good overall condition, with some usual restorations which were carefully done.

Catalogue Note
Jacques Dautriche, received master in 1765 The cabinetmaker Jacques Dautriche produced furniture in the Transitional style, during the late Louis XV and early Louis XVI periods, when Rococo forms were slowly becoming more neoclassical. Dautriche is also known for producing furniture with geometric marquetry panels set within gilt-bronze banding or filets, as well as his work for the comte d'Artois, brother to Louis XVI, to help furnish his Parisian residence at the Palais du Temple in 1777; Dautriche died one year later.
In 1967 the Boston Museum of Fine Arts was given by Jack Linsky a commode 'à portes' stamped by Dautriche (see M. Blaise, 'Jacques Dautriche, ébéniste sous Louis XV et Louis XVI', L'Estampille-L'Objet d'art, July-August 2001, p. 59, fig. 14).
