Condition
The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.: This work is painted on a very thin piece of plywood. The grain of the wood is quite prominent, and Munnings allowed this to show throughout the work. There are no damages or losses to the picture. There are only a couple of small retouches above the neck and four tiny spots of retouching in the lower right. The work should be hung as is.

Catalogue Note
Alfred Munnings was obviously taken with the parade from the paddock, as he painted the scene a number of times. Going out at Kempton is illustrated in the third volume of Munnings' autobiography (Alfred J. Munnings, The Finish, London, 1952, illustrated opposite p. 216). The view is from the steps at the back of the old paddock, and the present work represents a study for the lead horse.
