Condition

Inscribed and signed 'The undersigned declares that this picture has been painted by himself/ Edward Portielje/Antwerp' on the reverse. Examined in the frame. Oil on stable panel. The surface presents well, aside from minor surface dirt and dust, isolated areas of barely visible crauqelure and some scattered frame abrasion at the edges. Under UV: there is an uneven fluorescing green varnish, of which the figures and parts of the background appear to have been cleaned; and a few isolated retouches to the right of the figure's mouth, apron and to the cabinet, and along the right edge. Inpainting to address craquelure visible at upper right.
