Condition

The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.: This work is in good condition overall. The canvas is unlined, and the stretcher seems to be original. There is one patch on the reverse near the center of the work, which corresponds to a Y-shaped break in the figure's right thigh running into his right hand. There is another restoration immediately to the left of his right bicep, which runs about 6 inches in total. There are two other reinforcements on the reverse addressing losses in the upper left quadrant, one corresponding to a break in the canvas immediately above the red cloak over the back of Daphnis. There are a few spots of retouching in the leaves in the upper left, and to a couple of cracks in the clouds. A few cracks in the masonry to the right of his legs and around his feet in the lower right corner have also received retouches. All of the retouches are well applied, and the work should be hung in its current state.
