Condition
Examined in the frame. Original unlined condition, with a few areas of bumping and pulling of the canvas. There is minor surface dirt and dust; stable craquelure visible in the doorway at right; a vertical line of craquelure associated with a stretcher bar mark at center; and scattered frame abrasion at the edges with a few dots of associated loss along the left lower edge (visible in current framing). Under UV: there is an uneven green fluorescing varnish, of which the canvas appears to have been partially cleaned. There are vertical lines of inpainting to address prior frame abrasion along the left and right edges; some inpainting to the inside of the doorway's arches at right, including an approximately 4 inch long diagonal line; and a very few isolated, finely applied retouches in the sky, along the upper edge, between the two left most figures, and near the lower edge.
