Inscribed and signed on the reverse by a later hand: 'Bords de l'Apance à Chatillon/ (Vosges)/ no. 215/ Jan- Monchablon-' Examined in the frame. Lined. The surface presents well and appears bright and fresh. Minor frame abrasion with associated discoloration visible along the left and upper edges. Under UV: There is a 6 inch diagonal area of finely applied inpainting in the sky at upper left; and a 2 1/2 inch horizontal line of inpainting in the sky at right. Brushy inpainting visible along the upper left edge and some more finely applied inpainting along lower right edge (both to address prior frame abrasion).
