Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. The canvas is unlined. There is a network of stable craquelure throughout the black pigment in the figure. There are two, 1 inch horizontal areas of paint, which appear darker than the surrounding area, visible along the neck and chin of the figure. Under ultraviolet inspection the aforementioned dark marks across the face and neck florescence darkly and may have benefitted from restoration. Framed.

Catalogue Note

“They could represent watchmen or danger or the shadows of a human body after a nuclear holocaust or even my own shadow. But what makes them exciting is the power of the viewer’s imagination. It’s that split-second experience when you see the figure that matters.” Richard Hambleton
