Catalogue Note

"In the late '80s Amaral experimented with textural and chromatic shifts within single pieces. The result was the emergence of various planes within...a dazzling series entitled Cestas lunares. The visual action on the surface and sense of depth were both augmented [...] The surfaces of these works are hosts for the emergence of geometric images- the circle of sun and moon, the arc and swirl of energies and water. Forms within forms is an archetypal and succinct way of expressing the infinite; it leads to the mandala, whose entwined circle and square inform Amaral's celestial bodies bounded by rectilinear weaving." Ricardo Pau-Llosa, "The Eye's Music or the Emergence of the Thaumaturgical Object: An approach to the Art of Olga de Amaral" in Olga de Amaral: The Mantle of Memory, Paris 2013, p. 123
