"Pettibon's surfer drawings capture an existentialist moment where the surfer rides a fine line of beauty for a short time until nature inevitably engulfs and destroys him—a metaphor for life itself." Adam Lindemann in: “Foreward” in: Exh. Cat., New York, Venus over Manhattan, Raymond Pettibon: Surfers 1985-2015, 2015, p. 7
This work is in very good condition overall. The left edge of the sheet is deckled. The colors are bright and fresh. Under very close inspection, there is very minor evidence of wear and handling to the edges, including three pinpoint brown spot accretions on the margin of the sheet ¾ of an inch above the lower left corner and one pinpoint brown spot accretion at the lower left corner. The sheet is hinged verso to the mat at all four corners. Framed under Plexiglas. Please note this work is displayed in the exhibition with a different frame than it will be sold with.
