Condition

This work is in good condition overall. The variations to the pigment and surface texture are due to the artist's working method and chosen medium. There are a few minor areas of scattered surface abrasions and minor dust accumulation visible. There is a minor area of wear with some associated pigment loss to the upper left quadrant and to the upper left corner. There is a very small area of pigment cracking to the upper right quadrant approximately 1 inch under the 'H' in Neighborhood. Under close inspection, there is a small area of pigment craquelure present approximately 2 inches to the left of the figures face. Unframed.

Catalogue Note

“For Taylor, though, portraiture is much more than an artistic convention of a realistic painter; the variety that he produces within the genre reshapes what might be considered a conventional language into a flexible vehicle for a much larger goal, which is to produce a multivalent but also highly specific view of contemporary life as seen through the eyes of an African American artist at the beginning of the twenty-first century.” Victoria L.
