Catalogue Note

"Among Borremans's works there are meanwhile numerous reclining figures, on their backs or their bellies, in side view or as torsos, carried away behind glass, even head down or skull up, which largely hides the body receding into the depths...what comes across is a non-linear thinking in images that permeates his entire output. It is a way of thinking that is expressed primarily in ways of theatrical aspects—in postures and gestures with arrested breath, in dissolving light."

Hans Rudolf Reust, "Present Perfect" in Exh. Cat., Württembergische Kunstverein Stuttgart, Michaël Borremans: Eating the Bread, 2011, pp. 128 and 130
