Catalogue Note
"Culled from far-ranging sources such as the history of cinema and the shattering events of 20th century extremism, Adrian Ghenie's paintings dip into the darker currents of modern history. His works vividly highlight the trauma and complexity of select sensitive moments of recent history, while simultaneously shifting between abstraction and figuration in his expressionist, painterly style." Nora Burnett Abrams in Exh. Cat., New York, The Pace Gallery, Adrian Ghenie, 2013, p. 5
