Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. The colors are bright and fresh. There is evidence of light wear and handling to the edges, which are taped. The tape is slightly lifting in some places. There are scattered lines of abrasion in the lower half of the work as well as a vertical abrasion that extends along the entirety of the left edge. Under very close inspection, there are pinpoint brown accretions scattered throughout the work. There is a 1 in. horizontal area of hairline craquelure right of the keyhole near the top of the work. Just right of the green gumball, at the base of the gumball machine, there is a small accretion. Under ultraviolet inspection, the aforementioned accretion fluorescent brightly but is not the result of restoration. Framed.

Catalogue Note

"The mid-sixties art world seemed to muddle in what one felt was nondirection, but now we see it as am expansion of diversity. In that diversity there was room for somebody who would take Pop imagery, place it in the matrix of the traditional still life, and let the two percolate. I set out to push that approach to its logical end."
