Condition

This work is in good condition overall, and has been restored. The original stretcher has been reinforced. The reverse of the canvas has been treated with wax to consolidate the paint layer. The signature is still visible on the reverse of the original canvas. The cracking is raised, particularly on the right edge, and in the upper right and upper left, but the paint layer is stable. Viewed under ultraviolet light, one can see broad applications of pigment in the pale yellow background color. These have discolored and can also be seen with the naked eye. It is more than likely that this is not original paint. In the upper right quadrant, there are some areas that seem to have suffered some paint losses, which have been covered in pigment. It seems that while the condition of the work is very good except for a few spots in the upper right quadrant, the restoration is heavy handed.
