Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate. Condition: This work is in very good condition. Extremely close inspection reveals a very short and faint rub mark to the centre of the extreme left hand edge and an extremely fine scratch towards the upper centre of the right hand edge. No restoration is apparent when examined under ultra-violet light.

Catalogue Note

"With Saura, the image is distinct, clearly stated, centered, framed. The only violence comes from the frenzy of brushstrokes that set the proportions flying, that cut into the flesh, that bring the viscera up to the surface" (Guy Scarpetta cited in: Exh. Cat., Lugano, Museo d'Arte Moderna della Città di Lugano, Lugano, Antonio Saura, 1994, p. 44).

The authenticity of this work has been confirmed by the Fondation Archives Antonio Saura.
