Condition

Colour:The colour in the catalogue illustration is fairly accurate. Condition: This work is in very good condition. Extremely close inspection reveals some light wear to all four extreme corner tips and some faint handling and rub marks in intermittent places along all four extreme edges, only visible when examined out of its frame. Very close inspection in raking light reveals some very light canvas draw to the right hand corner tips. Further very close inspection reveals some very short and fine cracks in isolated places, most notably to areas of thicker paint and some tiny specks of loss to some of the impasto peaks. No restoration is apparent when examined under ultra-violet light.

Catalogue Note

“I paint. Suddenly, I discover a colour that excites me. I begin to get interested in this and forget my idea. In the end, the picture is different from what I imagined…. I have to put it in its place. A perpetual battle” (Asger Jorn cited in: Guy Atkins and Troels Andersen, Revised Supplement to the Oeuvre Catalogue of his paintings from 1930 to 1973, Denmark 2006, p. 16).
