Condition

Colour: The colour in the catalogue illustration is fairly accurate, although the overall tonality is brighter and more vibrant in the original. Condition: Unexamined out of its frame. This work is in very good condition. Very close inspection reveals some faint drying cracks to the areas of thicker impasto, some of which have some tiny specks of associated loss, most notably to the yellow pigment to the centre of the extreme lower edge. No restoration is apparent when examined under ultraviolet light.
"In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective, qualified opinion. Prospective buyers should also refer to any Important Notices regarding this sale, which are printed in the Sale Catalogue.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF BUSINESS PRINTED IN THE SALE CATALOGUE."

Catalogue Note

"The actual art-making, I do all myself. It’s not that I don’t think anyone else could do a good job. It’s what I love to do. There’s a million definitions of being an artist but I really like to see the artist’s hand. Not only in what I do, but when I look at other artists’ work, I really respond to the emotion and the energy that comes from the line or the mark the individual makes” (Kenny Scharf cited in: Emily Colucci, ‘You Can’t Plan Fun: An Interview With Kenny Scharf’, Art21 Magazine, June 2012, online).
