Condition

Beautiful set of candlesticks in very good condition. The illustrations of the catalogue are accurate, but the candlesticks are more impressive in reality. Gilding with a very nice colour and pinkish traces indicating the presence of the original mercury gilding. Therefore it is possible that some light refreshments have been made to the gilding at a later date. There are the inevitable minute dents, marks and scratches to the gilding due to age and use. The candlesticks are similar but please note that there are minor differences between them visible on the upper interlacing frieze of the nozzles and on the upper part of the drip pans. There are some old internal mounting replacements on two candlesticks (a nut on the stem of the candlestick signed by Gouthière, and probably one cube with the four lion's heads). Rare quality of chasing as expected with a production of the famous Pierre Gouthière. Refined details, especially the lion's heads and claws, the laurel leaves and the fluted lower frieze with darts. Rare and unrecorded set of four.
