Condition

The illustration of the catalogue is accurate, but the column is more impressive in reality.  The porphyry column and the sphere: There are some traces of old cleaning product on the upper sphere which could be easily cleaned. Very nice porphyry colour. There is a restoration to one angle of the upper porphyry square top, under the sphere. The porphyry column is in good condition. There is a porphyry plate of the lower base which is broken with a loss and which would benefit from a restoration. There are minor chips to the edges. The gilding is slightly tarnished and rubbed as expected. The pedestal: Good overall condition. There are the inevitable minor dents, marks, lifting areas and surface scratches due to age and use. One minor brass element of the right side is missing but could be easily replaced. Very decorative set with an impressive scale and size.
