Condition

Good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. Beautiful dark patina with accumulation to the wood throughout and lighter and glossy nuances in places.

Catalogue Note

Cet étrier de poulie orné d’une tête de calao stylisée symbolise le caractère mythique du tissage, dont la technique fut révélée à l'homme, après la Création, par les héros du panthéon Sénufo. La géométrisation des formes et la tension des courbes sont mises en valeur par les reflets de la profonde patine d'usage. Par l’élégance de sa construction et la majesté de la tête de calao, elle s’apparente très étroitement à la poulie Sénufo de l’ancienne Collection Hubert Goldet (Ricqlès (de), Paris, 30 juin 2001, n° 242).
