Catalogue Note

The meaning of my work is multiple. It depends on the objects I use, on the way I use them and on the meaning it takes in the general context of Modern Art. I am convinced that men over the last 30,000 years, the ones scientists call homo sapiens, were in fact homo artisticus. There is a great difference between a toolmaker, the homo faber, and a man who reflects upon his relationship to the environment, a man of crafts, and not of knowledge. Artistic processes are verbal before being visual. The goal of any artistic creation, from poetry to painting and sculpture, is to systematize an idea in advance, like a computer of sort. A community that developed several art forms has better chances of survival than one that has not. This is why, as artists, we should not be embarrassed in front of the society: we made it real. Without us, it would not be real. Arman
