Demi-veau blond, dos à nerfs orné de fleurons à froid et roulettes dorées, titre doré (Reliure de l'époque).Accrocs à la coiffe, charnières fragiles ou fendues (II). Rousseurs éparses, quelques planches uniformément brunies. Édition originale de ce monumental ouvrage, recherché pour ses illustrations, et publié par Godefroy Engelmann, introducteur de la lithographie en France. 112 très jolies grandes vues lithographiées en noir par Engelmann d'après Villeneuve (1796-1842), à pleine page, 21 grands bandeaux historiés et 5 titres gravés. Ces charmantes planches illustrent des lettres de Sazerac, Engelmann, Golbéry et Raoul Rochette consacrées à l'Oberland bernois (I, 24 planches), à l'ancien évêché de Bâle (II, 16 planches), au lac des Quatre-Cantons (III, 24 planches), à Genève, Chamonix et au Valais (IV, 24 planches) et à la route du Simplon (IV, 24 planches).
