Une page sur un bifeuillet in-8 (210 x 135 mm), signée "Richard Wagner". En allemand. La publication d'un morceau de jeunesse : Der Tannenbaum. Wagner lui envoie une copie du morceau qu'il avait écrit pour lui [Der Tannenbaum], qu’il ne considère pas comme la pire de ses œuvres et qui annonce déjà ses œuvres ultérieures. Il lui demande de se charger des traductions, précisant qu'il n'a plus rien à ajouter, tout comme pour les chansons de Paris "...hier ist das Lied, von dem ich Ihnen schrieb ; es ist nicht meine Schlechtestes, und ich glaube, kennen werden in diesen früheren Compositionen einen bedeutenden Bezug zu späteren Ausbildungen auffinden...".Fürstner venait de rééditer trois des chansons parisiennes de 1839 mentionnées par Wagner : Dors mon enfant, Attente et Mignonne (WWV 53, 55 et 57). Wagner composa Der Tannenbaum WWV 50 à Riga en 1838. Le manuscrit autographe a en partie disparu, mais le morceau avait été publié dans la revue Europa en 1839. La partition manuscrite, à l'origine jointe à la présente lettre et qui sera publiée par Fürstner en août 1871, a été vendue chez Sotheby's le 12 mai 1970 (lot 519).Le 10 juin 1871, Cosima Wagner écrit dans son journal : "R. reçut de Fürstner (éditeur à Berlin) 500 francs pour "Der Tannenbaum", ce qui l'amuse beaucoup" et le citant ensuite : "Je me souviens qu'à mes débuts à Paris, on me parlait toujours de Loïsa Paget, qui recevait 500 francs pour chacune de ses chansons - j'en suis maintenant à ma 59e année et j'ai également réussi cela".  Provenance : J.A. The unnamed recipient is the publisher Adolf Fürstner in Berlin, whom Wagner sends a copy of the song he had written to him about [Der Tannenbaum], which he considers not the worst of his songs and one that already contains clear anticipations of developments in his later works, asking the publisher to attend to the translations, explaining that he has nothing more to add, as with those of the Paris songs ("...hier ist das Lied, von dem ich Ihnen schrieb; es ist nicht meine Schlechtestes, und ich glaube, kennen werden in diesen früheren Compositionen einen bedeutenden Bezug zu späteren Ausbildungen auffinden..."). Wagner composed Der Tannenbaum WWV 50 in Riga in 1838. His autograph manuscript does not survive complete, but the song was published in the journal Europa in 1839.  The copyist manuscript originally enclosed with this letter, used by Fürstner for the edition published in August 1871, was sold at Sotheby's on 12 May 1970, lot 519.  Fürstner had recently republished three of the 1839 Paris songs that Wagner mentions: Dors mon enfant, Attente, and Mignonne (WWV 53, 55 & 57). Cosima Wagner wrote in her diary for 10 June 1871, "R. received from Fürstner (publisher in Berlin) 500 francs for "Der Tannenbaum", which amuses him greatly", later quoting him: "I remember that in my early Paris days, I was always being told about Demoiselle Loïsa Paget, who received 500 francs for each of her songs--now in my 59th year I have also achieved that" (for Loïsa Puget, see lot 168) Provenance : J.A.
