QING DYNASTY, 18TH – 19TH CENTURY

Catalogue Note

The inscription on the silhouette agate bottle, carved with a design of magpies and prunus, reads xiang kai bi guan, si dong meishao, which can be translated as 'be radiant with joy as the fragrance triggers the sense of smell'.

The inscription on the second bottle is adapted from a poem by Song Dynasty poet Lu You (1125-1210).
