Description

  • 9.7 cm, 3 3/4  in.
of circular form, carved in high relief on the front with the Patriarch Bodhidharma riding on a stalk of millet, incised around the rim with a gilt twenty character poem, miao ji zhen li xing, qing yuan li kong wang, zhao yi shen zhi jing, ming yuan shi zhong chang, the reverse with a further fifty-six character inscription explaining that the twenty characters on the front can be read as a poem from any starting point, making forty poems in all, the stone of a translucent yellowish green colour

Condition

Good overall condition with expected minute bruises and nibbling to the fragile extremities and rubbing to the gilding. As visible in the catalogue photo, there are two fissures to the stone.
